Christmas Appeal beats target to raise over £32,000
2020 was no doubt a challenging year for us all, but we were thrilled to end the year with some good news as our Christmas Appeal was met with incredible uptake from companies and individuals.
The 2020 Christmas Appeal was one of Transaid’s most successful to date, beating its £25,000 target to raise £32,256. We were humbled at our supporters’ generosity during the festive season, especially given the uncertainty of the times. A huge thank you to everyone who helped us raise this phenomenal amount, which will go towards our programmes in sub-Saharan Africa.
Speaking about the appeal’s success, Transaid’s Head of Fundraising, Florence Bearman, said: “We are absolutely amazed at the response to 2020’s Christmas Appeal. In a very difficult year for everybody, our supporters from across the transport and logistics industry have once again stood by us. This will enable us to continue our life-saving work in 2021, supporting communities with safe, available and sustainable transport.”
Like previous years, the appeal called on both individual givers and companies to help us reach our target. The corporate side of the appeal offered a range of publicity packages including social media coverage, personalised e-cards, and logo placement in our festive adverts in industry press.

We would like to thank the publications that made this possible: Motor Transport, Commercial Motor, SHD Logistics, Forwarder, CILT Focus, UKWA Warehouse, RHA Roadway, Transport News, Handling & Storage Solutions, and Coach & Bus Week.
Donations from the 43 companies who supported the appeal made up a significant part of the overall total. We are proud to receive the continued support of the transport and logistics industry as an organisation working to solve transport challenges in sub-Saharan Africa.
Individuals also chose to support the appeal on Giving Tuesday, a nation-wide charitable giving movement that encourages people to give back to causes that are important to them on the 1st December every year.
With the ongoing pandemic, the appeal came at a time when safe transport and access to healthcare have never been so important. Thanks to our supporters, we will be able to help more people in sub-Saharan Africa protect themselves with our COVID-19 response programmes in Uganda and Zambia.
Nicola Parkes, Transaid’s Fundraising and Events Assistant, commented: “conducting the Christmas Appeal for the first time, I was overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of so many within Transaid’s network: from the industry publications that donated advert spreads, to the companies that supported the appeal by requesting a package, and the individuals that donated via our JustGiving page.
“I am so excited to see what 2021 brings, and for the opportunity to work with and meet some of these amazing individuals that made the 2020 Christmas Appeal such a huge success.”
