Study on Proliferation of Counterfeit Helmets in Kenya – survey tool
Transaid developed this data collection tool as part of a study which launched in September 2025 to determine to what degree, helmets used by commercial motorcycle taxi riders in Kenya were counterfeit, in other words not compliant with the national helmet standard introduced by the Kenyan Bureau of Standards in 2012 (KS_77). This study links to Transaid’s work to establish a Kenyan National Helmet Wearing Coalition, specifically efforts to improve helmet testing capacity in-country. The results of the study can act as a baseline against which we can measure the impact of a helmet testing facility on the proliferation of counterfeit helmets in Kenya.
