Purpose: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager to join Transaid’s Programmes Team. We are looking for someone to support our rural transport programmes as part of our Access to Health work.
This person will also be expected to provide wider support to Transaid’s Programmes Team.
Responsible to: Head of Programmes
Responsible for: This role has the potential to have technical line management responsibility for in-country programme support, consultants and or short term secondees in a variety of different countries.
Location: London (NW1), with frequent travel to programmes in sub-Saharan Africa and possibly other locations as per project requirements
Post: Full time
Period: Permanent
Salary: The salary band will be £31,000 – 32,500, dependent on experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following activities:

 Project Management:
o Project planning
o Budgeting and programmes forecasts
o Stakeholder engagement
o Resource planning
o Project implementation
o Training
o Monitoring and evaluation
o High quality report writing
o Dissemination activities and knowledge management
o Managing risk
o Donor relations and compliance
 Provide technical expertise and general support to Transaid’s wider programmes when required
 Support relevant research and production of programme related literature
 Create materials to facilitate programme development and to share Transaid ‘knowledge’ and implementation tools
 Disseminate programmes information and experience internally and externally
 Develop concept notes and project proposals as and when appropriate
 Represent and promote Transaid externally at a senior level (conferences, workshops etc.)
 Network with appropriate development agency and transport and logistics industry partners
 Other duties as required

Skills and Competencies

Essential proven experience:
 Working overseas and successfully managing international development projects
 Managing multiple projects simultaneously
 Direct and distance management
 Working in transport, rural access or community development programmes
 Producing quality reports and managing budgets to a high standard
 Energy, drive and resilience
 Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to multitask
 Excellent written and oral communication
 French language skills
 Working effectively with people at all levels and within a team
 University degree (undergraduate) in a relevant field
 A high level of computer literacy
 An ability to travel sometimes at short notice for extended periods of time

Desirable experience:
 Working on emergency transport systems and rural access programmes
 Development contracting particularly familiarity with large donor (USAID, DFID etc.) regulations
 Cross sector experience, for example in transport and logistics/health /livelihoods
 Masters’ degree in a relevant field

Remuneration:
We are offering a salary in the region of £31,000 – £32,500, 25 days leave per annum and a generous pension scheme
