The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a call to action by all countries in a global partnership, to end poverty, improve health and education, reduce inequality, spur economic growth, and protect the planet.

Launched in 2015, the SDGs are collection of 17 interlinked global goals, designed to be a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. They provide a framework for global development targets to be achieved by the year 2030.

Transaid puts sustainable and accountable practices at the heart of what we do, and our work to improve road safety and increase access to healthcare contributes to eight of these goals. Scroll down for further information on each goal.

No Poverty

Transaid works to ensure that essential medical information and services are available to remote and underserved communities, reducing the burden of disease and improving lives. Through our training programmes, we help people to build the skills they need to transform their future.

Good Health and Well-Being

Transaid improves transport systems across sub-Saharan Africa, supporting target 3.6 (to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic crashes), and ensures timely access to healthcare facilities, supporting target 3.3 (to end malaria and other diseases.)

Gender Equality

Transaid supports professional female drivers and transport operators with training and finding full-time employment, and improves access to healthcare services, particularly maternal and reproductive health, which disproportionately affect women in the countries where Transaid works.

Decent Work and Economic Growth

Transaid provides training and capacity building in the transport and logistics sector, enhancing access to job opportunities and creating safer and more sustainable employment. Transaid also works to strengthen health supply chains, fostering healthy, productive communities to promote sustainable livelihoods and sustain economic growth.

Reduced Inequalities

Transaid is committed to improving access to transport for underserved communities, reducing inequalities by ensuring equitable access to healthcare and economic opportunities, supporting vulnerable populations, and promoting inclusive development.

Sustainable Cities and Communities

Transaid improves transport systems, enhances road safety, promotes sustainable mobility, and builds resilience in urban areas, with an overarching aim to create inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities.

Climate Action

Transaid is tackling climate change through sustainable transportation solutions. By promoting eco-friendly modes of transport, reducing carbon emissions, safe and fuel-efficient driving and building resilience to climate-related risks. Transaid’s MAMaZ Against Malaria programme aims to reduce preventable deaths from severe malaria, it is estimated that climate change will cause 60,000 additional malaria deaths annually by 2050, according to the WHO.

Partner for the Goals

Partnerships are essential to Transaid. We bring together corporate partners, programme partners, donors, and academia to transform lives through safe, available and sustainable transport.
