Transaid sets new fundraising record at the Motor Transport Awards

This month we were delighted to once again be selected as the chosen charity for one of the transport industry’s biggest nights – the Motor Transport Awards.

On the 3rd July the Grosvenor House Hotel played host to over 1,400 people to recognise outstanding achievement in the road freight industry.

Last year’s Motor Transport Awards saw Transaid raise a record £32,514. This year we had even more to celebrate as the Transaid team – including some of our Ambassadors and supporters – surpassed this total to raise an incredible £36,825. The amount is Transaid’s highest fundraising total for a single event to date.

After dinner, Transaid CEO Caroline Barber gave a few updates about Transaid’s programmes, as well as encouraging guests to participate in the night’s fundraising activities. The first of these was an auction run by Claudia Winkleman, the host for the evening. Guests bid on a number of money-can’t-buy experiences generously donated by our corporate supporters, including:

  • A Boeing 747 Flight Simulator Experience with Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, donated by Caerdav (formally Cardiff Aviation)
  • A Football Lovers’ Package including Real Madrid tickets with Hospitality, accommodation and flights, donated by Hankook, and an England Replica 66 Shirt
  • Four-Ball at the JCB Golf & Country Club, donated by Microlise
  • Golf and Lunch with Kevin Keegan, donated by BigChange

After dinner and the awards, guests were invited to play at a charity casino, with prizes kindly donated by Michelin, Backhouse Jones and Microlise awarded to the three people who cashed in the largest amount of chips at the end of the night.

The night marked Transaid’s return as the chosen charity for the third year in a row. The total raised this year was a £16,500 improvement on 2017’s figure.

We are so grateful to everyone who made this achievement possible, from our corporate supporters who donated prizes, to the incredible volunteers who supported our team on the night, everyone who donated, with a particular thanks to our winning auction bidders Palletforce, BigChange, Fowler Welch and NRG Services, as well as the organisers of the Awards themselves.
