Transaid offers chance to win a flight on Goodyear Blimp

Courtesy of the generosity of Goodyear, Transaid’s long-standing corporate partner, we are able to offer two people the chance of a flight on the tyre and rubber company’s legendary airship which is returning to the skies over central London in May.

The once in a lifetime opportunity to see London from on high is available via a free to enter prize draw, with the option to donate towards Transaid’s lifesaving work.

But anyone wanting to participate in this unique event will need to get their skates on as the deadline for entry, which can only be done via the form below is May 5th, with the flight taking place on May 12th. The Blimp will depart from Essex, where on-site parking is available and both breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The prize draw will be drawn on Friday May 6th, with the winner announced and contacted later that same day.

Goodyear has been a corporate member of Transaid since 2014, supporting the organisation to transform lives through safe, available and sustainable transport in sub-Saharan Africa.

The company is committed to providing essential, unrestricted funding towards the testing and implementation of Transaid’s programmes aimed at improving access to healthcare and road safety in the region. The organisation’s employees have also participated in several Transaid cycle challenges, raising significant funds to support our work.

In 2019, and after reaffirming its commitment to Transaid, Goodyear pledged £5,000 towards the MaMaZ programme, an innovative community-led project designed to improve severe malaria case management in rural areas. This funding provided a bicycle ambulance, protective clothing for the emergency transport volunteers and vehicle maintenance, training and support for 12 months. The organisation first pledged a bicycle ambulance to the programme in 2015.

As an organisation that is determined to champion the role of women in the transport and logistics sector, Transaid was excited to read the story of Kate Board, the first, and currently one of two Zeppelin pilots worldwide.

Several of Transaid’s programmes are focused around championing female inclusion in the transport and logistics sector, and we recently launched a new initiative to increase the number of female HGV and PSV drivers on the road in Uganda. The country is experiencing a huge rise in demand for professional drivers which is expected to increase over the coming years, and we believe that encouraging more women into the sector will benefit transport companies, contribute to improved safety and generate new career opportunities for women. More information about this programme can be found here.

Nahabwe Sharon Kinyatta (pictured below) is a female driver on the Professional Driver Training Uganda – Phase 2 (PDTU2) programme. Having been through both Class C and Class CE driver training for Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) at Transaid’s partner school – Safe Way Right Way, she intends to become one of the most competent drivers in the country, and to prove that driving HGVs is possible for everyone, as long as one has passion and drive.
