Global Freight Awards raises £8,858

The Global Freight Awards took place on Thursday 19 November at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, with more than 500 guests recognising some of the biggest achievers in Transport and Logistics sectors over the past year.

Transaid was kindly asked to be the beneficiary charity again this year, so we’d like to extend our sincere thanks to the organisers of the Global Freight Awards for kindly hosting us. Throughout the evening guests were treated to delicious food and wonderful entertainment, beginning with poet/comedian Chris Turner’s skilful use of words offered by the audience to rap funny verses, as well as a fantastic speech from the evening’s guest of honour Nick Hewer (Alan Sugar’s right-hand-man of The Apprentice fame). The raffle game of heads and tails raised an incredible £3,358.20, and was swiftly followed by Andy and Nikki Thorne’s spontaneous decision to auction off a 10-day stay at their holiday home in the Grenadines. This lovely gesture resulted in a further £5,500 being raised for Transaid, bringing the total amount of funds raised in the evening to just under £9,000 – thank you Andy and Nikki!

We really cannot thank enough all the guests at Global Freight Awards who so kindly donated to the raffle as well as the auction winner for his generous bid. We are so grateful for the continued support of so many people- without these essential donations many of Transaid’s programmes in Africa would cease to exist.

Take a look at the highlights video from this year’s Awards. Congratulations to all the winners!
