Transaid Ambassador Robert Jervis walks to raise funds for Transaid

Transaid Ambassador and Managing Director of Clarion Events, Robert Jervis, has raised almost £6,000 for Transaid by walking 147 miles along canals from Clarion Events’ headquarters in Fulham, London, to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham.

Robert’s challenge began on 26th April, walking 19 miles to Uxbridge. Robert walked between 14 and 17 miles per day on his journey through King’s Langley, Cheddington, and Bletchley, but then quickly progressed to up to 26 miles a day through Bugbrooke and Long Itchington to the NEC – equivalent to a marathon!

Along the way, Robert was joined by friends and colleagues from across the transport and logistics industry and beyond. The unpredictable British weather thankfully held up, and they enjoyed glorious sunshine. Robert arrived at the NEC on 2nd May to a congratulatory billboard and medal.

Reflecting on the challenge, Robert says: “Transaid is a charity close to my heart, and as the charity partner of the Multimodal Exhibition, I couldn’t think of a better organisation to raise funds for through this challenge. Although it was tough, it was a fantastic experience! Thank you to everybody who joined me on the walk and made generous donations.”

Maddy Matheson, Transaid’s Head of Fundraising, says: “We would like to say a massive thank you to Robert for taking on this challenge and for raising such an enormous amount to support our mission to transform lives through safe, available and sustainable transport.

“While many of our challenges focus on cycling and running, Robert’s challenge is a reminder that walking long distances is just as grueling. Many of the communities we work with are located far from health facilities – some as far as 100 kilometres. Rob has both raised crucial funds to improve access to healthcare and also awareness of the transport challenges many communities face in sub-Saharan Africa.”
