Microlise Transport Conference raises over £5,000 for Transaid

£5,400 was raised for Transaid’s road safety and access to healthcare programmes in Africa at the Microlise Transport Conference, at which we exhibited as the beneficiary charity.

£5,000 was raised through a raffle during the exclusive black-tie dinner on the eve of the conference; with a further £400 being donated from the proceeds of a coffee stand organised by Microlise during the conference.

The dinner was hosted by theatre and television director, writer, and actor, Simon Evans, and featured an opportunity for networking, as well as the presentation of the Microlise Driver of the Year Awards for 2023. This highlights the most talented logistics drivers working in the UK transport industry and acknowledges their vital work.

Microlise CEO, Nadeem Raza welcomed attendees to the dinner, before inviting Transaid’s Acting Co-Chief Executive, Florence Bearman to the stage. Florence provided specific Transaid programme-related updates from the last year, and spoke about its work towards achieving the global targets set by the sustainable development goals.

She highlighted that Transaid has trained more than 100 professional driver trainers since 2008, who have delivered training to more than 55,000 HGV, PSV and forklift drivers – which has had a lasting impact on road safety standards.

Speaking about Transaid’s flagship MAMaZ Against Malaria (MAM at Scale) programme, she added: “The MAMaZ programme has had an immense amount of success since 2017, reducing child mortality by over 96 percent in its pilot phase, and by 87 percent in the ten districts where it now operates.”

On behalf of Transaid, Florence congratulated all of the award winners, and also the runners up, for their outstanding achievements over the past year.

During the conference that followed the next day, Florence also addressed the delegates; highlighting the significant achievements by Transaid since its inception in 1998, whilst identifying the key priorities in its portfolio strategy for the future.

In addition, she outlined the importance of collaboration for Transaid, and the mutually beneficial relationship that we maintain with our wide array of partners. Firstly, through their assistance in supporting Transaid’s mission to transform lives through transport, and secondly, by helping businesses to meet their commitment to Environmental, social and governance (ESG) compliance by strengthening their impact reporting and by being able to demonstrate their support for an international charity.

Florence concluded both of her speeches by drawing attention to the inaugural Transaid Cup – a football tournament, which is taking place in July. Hosted by Microlise and Libra Europe, and with teams from Dawson Group, Goodyear, GXO, and Michelin already confirmed for this 16-team event, we invite the industry to register a team to join them.

We are incredibly grateful to Microlise for its support, and for hosting Transaid at this incredible two-day event. We also thank the guests for their support of the fundraising activities that took place, which will contribute significantly to sustaining and developing Transaid’s access to healthcare and road safety projects in sub-Saharan Africa.
