Regional Programmes Managers

 
Gary Forster
Head of Programme Development

Gary joined the Programme Management Team in 2006, having previously worked for Proctor and Gamble as a logistician. Based in Lusaka, Zambia, he is developing Transaid’s work in the Southern Africa region. In the past year he has rapidly built government and private sector support for our Professional Driver Training programme and significantly raised the profile of Transaid’s work.

 

Caroline Barber
Programme Manager - Zambia

Caroline is Transaid’s Programme Manager for Zambia.  She is on a two year sabbactical from Transaid member company Wincanton where she previously held roles in in business development and project management. Caroline is currently  project  managing the Professional Driver Training Project in Zambia whilst providing support to other Zambian based Transaid projects. She also spent time as a volunteer with Transaid in Sri Lanka, following the Tsunami, and in Ghana working with a Women's Transport Co-operative to support the development of their business plan. 

 

Victor Simfukwe
Programme Officer – Southern Africa

Victor joined Transaid as a volunteer in 2006 and a year later started full time as a programme officer in Zambia. Coming from a community work background, Victor previously served as an education/outreach officer for Ubuntu, a Zambian NGO working with people with disabilities. Victor's current role is to support Transaid’s projects running in Zambia with his most recent work being the Bicycle Ambulance Project in the Eastern Province of Zambia. 

 

Edward O’Connor
Programme Officer – West Africa

Edward joined Transaid in December 2009 as Nigeria’s Programme Manager. Edward is currently working on the PRRINN-MNCH project in Nigeria which deals with maternal mortality and child immunisation. He had spent the previous number of years working for Wincanton in various roles in different countries. Edward also spent some time as a volunteer with Transaid in Mozambique, Zambia and Nigeria.

 

Ana Luísa Silva
Programme Manager Nigeria

Ana joined Transaid as a volunteer in April 2009. Since then, she spent time in the London office (as part of the Marketing team) and also in Mozambique.  She is currently working on the Emergency Transport Scheme project in Gombe State, Nigeria, which aims to improve the availability of emergency transport to pregnant women living in remote areas. Ana holds an MSc degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics.

 

 

UK Support Team

 

The following staff are based in our UK London Office and provide valuable support to the Transaid team overseas.

 

 

Chris Saunders OBE
Chief Executive

Chris has lived and worked in Africa and the Middle East over the last 30 years. As former Head of Save the Children’s Regional Office for Southern Africa he was based in Mozambique and Zimbabwe and traveled regularly through the region. His deep knowledge and experience of Africa has had a great impact on Transaid since he joined the organisation in 2004.

 

Chris Cuninghame
Office Manager

Chris started work in June as Office Manager. Before then he'd been working for 20 years with international NGOs in programme management and development, here in the UK and overseas. Most of his previous work has been in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe and is very happy to be able to increase his understanding of African development issues within Transaid. Chris is committed to supporting the growth of stimulating and well-focussed organisations such as Transaid. He has also developed funding proposals, grants management and donor relations for international NGO programmes in the past. 

 

Eve Baker
Office Assistant

Eve Baker works as an Administrative Assistant. The work she undertakes consists of general administrative duties and assisting the office manager with Transaid accounts.

 

Chantelle Cummings
Head of Marketing

Chantelle joined Transaid in May 2007 and has over 10 years experience in fundraising and event management roles within the third sector.  At Transaid Chantelle oversees all corporate account management, communications and events.  She spent a gap year teaching English in Tanzania and has travelled in Africa and parts of South America where she spent time volunteering for a street children’s NGO in Peru.  Chantelle is a member of the Institute of Fundraising and holds a Masters degree in Gender Analysis and Development from the University of East Anglia.

 

April McGhee
Marketing and Events Assistant

April has joined Transaid in April 2009 after a gap year travelling the world. She finished her undergraduate degree in History at the University of Exeter in July 2008. April is taking this opportunity to learn more about marketing and events in the context of an international development organisation.
