If you saw Michelin and Transaid at the Lord Mayor's Show, here are some stories behind our placards and display

Motorbike ambulance with rider in Nigeria. Pictures of the placards used at the show, for the text version see the main body of the page

Our motorbike ambulance (right), was designed to help reduce the 1 in 40 risk of death that women in Nigeria run during pregnancy. Watch a short video of us at the Show to find out more. (9.8mb - requires Quicktime 7) or read a text narrative of the video. You can read more about the project here.

Imagine - 1 in 6 children dying in Africa before their 5th birthday.  We can help to double the number of children vaccinated against disease

Many children die unnecessarily because lack of health transport prevents lifesaving vaccines from reaching them.  In Ghana, the number of children vaccinated doubled after we helped to make health service transport more efficient by putting a Transport Management System in place.

Imagine - 2500 people die each day on the roads of developing countries.  We make Africa's roads safer by training professional drivers

85% of road accidents take place in developing countries. Transaid's professional driver training helps make the roads safer, as well as giving people who drive for a living better opportunities to provide for themselves and their families.

Imagine - Being a skilled health worker and you can't get to your patients.  We equip health workers with the transport skills to reach more people

If vehicles break down, are damaged in accidents or are scheduled badly, health workers can't reach their patients.  After Transaid built transport systems and skills in the South African health service, transport was no longer a barrier to people receiving healthcare.

Imagine - Walking 20 miles to get to the nearest health clinic.  Our bicycle ambulance gives Zambian villagers a chance of survival

In rural Africa, lack of transport can prevent people from reaching clinics in emergencies.  The bicycle ambulances that Transaid helped local manufacturers to build now provide emergency transport for people in 12 Zambian and Malawian communities, giving 5 patients a month a chance of survival.

Imagine - a world where transport contributes fully to a better quality of life. Transaid makes transport safer, more affordable and efficient

We belive that transport can improve the quality of life of people in poor countries if it is operated safely, is affordable for everyone and does its job efficiently.  Michelin was a founder member of Transaid, and continues to support us because it shares our commitment to improving road safety and helping make transport part of the solution to poverty and disadvantage.  Everyone who donates to Transaid gets an exclusive, Michelin Man pin badge.  Find out how to donate here!
