August 06 Supporter of the Month - MAN ERF

MAN ERF are honoured this month for finding several ways to strengthen our programme work and fundraising activities, above and beyond their annual membership donation.

Firstly, several months of hard work by MAN ERF apprentices at S&B Training in Bristol, designing and building a prototype motorcycle ambulance trailer, culminated in a trip to Nigeria by apprentice Declan Donnelly, lecturer Pete Vill and MAN ERF’s Paul Sadler to help local engineers to build the trailers with local materials.   The project was part of a programme to provide pregnant women in remote, rural areas with emergency transport and, not only was the trailer hailed as an important development in Nigeria, the company also recognised it as a unique opportunity to develop its young apprentices. Declan is pictured above with one of the locally manufactured trailers, and you can read more about the team’s experience in Nigeria here.

Then, Transaid’s training programme to improve professional driving standards in Zambia and Malawi stalled because the training truck at the Industrial Training Centre in Lusaka, our partner in Zambia, reached the end of its life and there were no funds to replace it. MAN ERF CEO Des Evans learnt of the predicament and an F2000 18.403 4x2 tractor was donated.

Thanks must also go to NYK Logistics who stepped without hesitation to ship the truck, free of charge. This generous gesture made MAN ERF’s offer a reality.

The result, when the truck arrives in August, will be that Transaid can resume its programme to professionalise the commercial transport sector and bring better livelihoods opportunities, safer roads and more efficient transport operations to Zambia and Malawi. You can read more about this programme here.

And finally, MAN ERF are sponsors of our August fundraising event, the Transaid Corporate Golf Day, on 11th August at Stock Brook Country Club in Essex. The event is a chance to meet fellow Transaid supporters, enjoy great networking opportunities and, of course, raise vital funds for our work.

A big thanks to MAN ERF for their strong support, and to everyone who helps us to continue and develop our work.
