MAN ERF UK DONATES TRAINING VEHICLE TO ZAMBIA

MAN ERF UK Ltd has donated a training vehicle to the Industrial Training Centre, Transaid’s training partner in Zambia. The truck will be used to help local people earn a living as professionally trained commercial vehicle drivers.

The F2000 18.403 4x2 tractor will be used to meet the increasing demand for driver training and was shipped from the UK by NYK Logistics. Its arrival in Zambia will enable Transaid to support training to internationally recognised standards through the training of driver trainers.

Chris Saunders, Chief Executive Officer of Transaid, explains: “Our work with the Industrial Training Centre was at a standstill because their training vehicle was beyond repair and ready for the scrap heap. When we told Des Evans (Chief Executive of MAN ERF UK) about the predicament he quickly sourced an appropriate vehicle from MAN ERF’s TopUsed stock of quality used vehicles.

“This just left us with the problem of getting the tractor unit to Zambia, and that’s where NYK Logistics came in. It’s been a prime example of the industry working in collaboration to make things happen,” he adds.

The vehicle was presented during an official ceremony in Lusaka, where Chris Saunders presented the vehicle to Dr E. Mambwre, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Transport in Zambia.

In the next stage of the project, two volunteers from DHL Exel Supply Chain will be travelling to Zambia to continue the training of trainers.
