A Text Narrative of the Lord Mayor's Show Video

The Transaid logo (a tyre motif made up of footprints) and strapline “Transport for Life” flashes across the screen, followed by the heading “The Lord Mayor’s Show 2006”. 2006 is cut out of the screen so you can see part of the procession behind it.

The camera pans across to show a motorbike then cuts to a women (Caroline Beaumont, Transaid’s Head of Marketing) standing with a trailer with a blue canopy behind her. She explains what the vehicle is designed to do while the camera pans to show the trailer and the motorbike it is hitched to together.

Caroline says: “We’ve got the Transaid motorbike ambulance on our float today, which was designed to give pregnant women in Nigeria the chance to get to health clinics in case of emergency because in rural areas of Nigeria it’s very, very difficult for women to get to hospital either because transport is too expensive for them, there simply isn’t any available or it’s too dangerous for them to make the journey. So this provides a very low cost, low tech solution for them to be able to get to hospital. So, that’s what we’re showcasing today, and we just hope to spread the message about how Transaid makes transport more effective, affordable and efficient in developing countries.”

The next shot is part of the two minute silence, with only the sound of bells striking. St Paul’s cathedral is shown, then the crowds standing in silence.

Some brief clips of other people in the procession: a marching band of uniformed musicians with while helmets; a huge brightly decorated orange Chinese dragon with people inside it; three African dancers, one in white, two in brightly coloured dress, dancing on their float; and then shots of the Transaid float.

Four people in red coats are carrying placards and waving at the crowds, with a banner mounted above them with the words "Transaid www.transaid.org transport for life” and the Transaid logo. The motorcycle ambulance is also visible.

Cut to a huge inflatable Michelin Man on the back of the float, with another man dressed in blue waving with a placard in front of it. The blue canopy of the motorcycle ambulance trailer can also be seen.

A shot from the front shows all the people above, the ambulance and the Michelin Man, followed by another shot from the side of those in red coats waving, then of the back of the Michelin Man as the float drives away from the camera.

The video finishes with the Transaid logo and strapline again.
