Capture the Commute! - Transaid Photography Competition
Every day, millions of people globally take part in the daily commute into, and from, work. Whether by bus, train, subway, cycle or walking, people may travel short distances or from further afield to work or school. Many cities throughout the world experience the daily bustle of the commute such as London, Birmingham, New York, Paris and Tokyo as well as Accra, Nairobi, Lagos and Lusaka. Despite the global nature of the commute, each of us experiences it differently.
Transaid is running a competition to find out what the commute means to you, as well as giving you a chance to show off your photography skills! Simply take a photo of a scene which you feel best encapsulates the daily commute and what it means to you. This photo can be of whatever you chose, artistic or otherwise, as long as it captures the essence of the commute! The winner will be determined by a public vote and shall receive a fantastic hamper bag of delicious biscuits kindly donated by Fudges Bakery.
To enter, simply e-mail your photo to hugh@transaid.org. If you wish, you can also include a sentence or two to explain why you feel your image best encapsulates the global phenomenon that is the daily commute. Images will then be uploaded to our Facebook page and voted upon.
In developing countries, the lack of adequate safety training among commercial drivers means that the commute poses increased risks for road users, yet every morning the streets from Accra to Lusaka, similarly to London or any city in developed nations, are busy with people heading to work. Transaid works with partners in developing countries to improve standards among commercial vehicle drivers and by doing so, increase road safety for all users.
